The Content of Political Ads in Developing Countries: Evidence from Mexico

Project Description: The goal of the project is to assess the determinants of the content of political ads in Mexico. To that end, this project plans to exploit the availability of the universe of political ads that were used in radio and television in the 2012 Mexican federal elections.

Description of RA Duties: The student will become knowledgeable about the literature on politics and media in developing countries. The student will first help to clean the automated transcripts of the political ads in Spanish. The student will then help to code up the content of the political ads.

This position is part of the Undergraduate Research Scholars Program (URS) in the Institute for Quantitative Social Science at Harvard University. Scholars must be current Harvard College undergraduates.
