Ethnicity and Political Patronage: Evidence from Local Governments in Kenya

Faculty Member: Horacio Larreguy

This project seeks to understand the role of local elites' ethnicity on employment dynamics within Kenya's Local Governments, looking specifically at the effect of the ethnic composition of elected councilors and centrally-appointed bureaucrats. The Harvard College undergraduate RA will aggregate existing datasets on employment information into a panel dataset that will later be merged with characteristics of each Local Government to ultimately perform an econometric analysis.  The RA will gain practice using Stata to clean, manipulate and analyze data, as well as a better understanding of local ethnic politics in Kenya.
