The Role of Religious and Traditional Leaders as Political Brokers in Senegal

Faculty Member: Horacio Larreguy

The goal of the project is to assess the role of religious and traditional leaders as political brokers in Senegal. To that end, this project plans to use data from the 2002 census and election data at the polling station level for the 2000, 2003, 2007, 2009, and 2012 elections in Senegal, as well as spatial data on the location of political machines.

Description of RA Duties: The whole project will be in Stata and ArcGIS. The RA will gain practice using Stata to manipulate (e.g., variable construction, fuzzy merging and appending data bases), and analyze data (i.e., regression analysis), as well as a better understanding of vote buying in Senegal.
